Here we are finally back in Rome!

The 4th Urbe Criterium Race was held on June 23rd during the Notte Bianca (All night sporting events) of the Sports Facilities in Rome. Event organized by ProBike Rome and by the guys from Urbe Squadra Corse.

It has been a long time since a fixed-gear bike race was held in Rome and the appointment could not be missed. The circuit, extended for about 1.3 km, traced in front of the Caracalla stadium was composed of long straights and hairpin curves, plus two very wide and fast curves to close the track.

The organization was excellent; the whole circuit has been put in safety, fenced and with signals for the Roman drivers; accesses and exits to the circuit in safe and strategic points. To welcome the large audience the paddock area and street food along the final straight. Race directors placed on the finish line with a dedicated gazebo, in short, everything in order and safe for us riders and for the show!

This year, as in the past, the participations are sold out and the best riders on the world scene of the fixed gear are ready to compete. Eamon Lucas is the spearhead of the Specialized Rocket Espresso Team, Martino Poccianti of Cykeln Racing Division that returns after the bad fall of Brooklyn, Team Bahumer with Frank Martucci, Giovanni Longo and Alvise Zanasca, the flowery Team of Urbe Squadra Corse with the return of Stefano Capponi on a fixed gear bike, Luca Ursino, Michael Capati, T-Red Racing Factory, IRD Squadra Corse and Team Cinelli. These are the guys who will fight for a place on the podium.

The women, were represented by Paola Dolly. Who will be crowned at the end of the evening as Queen of Rome.

The qualifications are disputed with a format from Crono, two laps for each rider, the best time determines the starting grid.

The Fast and technical track at the same time for the presence of three Hairpin, then unrestrained speed and breathtaking restart.

The qualifications determined a starting grid with Eamon in pole position with a record time, immediately after Martino Poccianti and then the Romans, T-Red Facory and Team Bahumer to fill the top positions, as forecast.

The race starts at 9:30 pm and immediately after three laps the lead group is created with Eamon in the lead. 26 laps made of stretches, skidds and restarts.

The head group travels at impressive and close pace arriving at the end of the race with a final sprint that sees at the finish line first Eamon Lucas, second Martino Poccianti and third Facu Lezica of T-Red Racing Factory.

Awards ceremony with music, confetti and the centurion helmet on the head of the winner, in short, a show that was not seen in Rome for a long time. Smiles and joy among the public who for the first time appear in the world of the fixed gear, right in the center of the eternal city.

Not only the great names of fixed gear cycling to participate but also other teams that for years have been part of the National and International scene such as: Sea Hub, Dafne Fixed, Dec1ma Squadra Corse and many other guys who daily live the city riding bikes without brakes.

Many also the photographers present, Chiara Redaschi, Stefano Bruni aka Cool79, Chris Leustean, and Stefano Martinelli of Dec1ma Creative Hub, who have immortalized the most beautiful moments of this 4th Urbe Criterium Race.
So until the next race in 2019, arrivederci.
